novinarka / Journalist

Joanna Kakissis je grško-ameriška novinarka, ki jo lahko poslušamo na valovih ameriškega radia NPR in podcasta This American Life. Njene prispevke so med drugim objavili v New Yorkerju, New York Timesu, reviji TIME, Politicu, Foreign Policy in Financial Timesu.

Joanna Kakissis is a Greek-American reporter for the American radio station NPR and the co-author of the podcast This American Life. She published articles in The New Yorker, The New York Times, TIME magazine, Politico, Foreign Policy, and Financial Times. For NPR, she is mostly covering Greece, Cyprus and the Balkans, but she also reports from other European countries.

Kakissis moved from the USA to Greece in 2004. She witnessed its economy collapse and covered recent refugee crisis. Her stories on social, economic and cultural upheaval are told through stories of the people who find themselves among them. »Reporters are not machines and it’s hard to keep an emotional distance when I am living in the story,« she says. This is probably why her stories on topics that can be dull and abstract are actually interesting and easier for her listeners or readers to imagine.
